Upcycling requires less energy than upcycling plastic through recycling. Upcycling plastic also helps the environment because the production of plastics is energy intensive, releasing large amounts of greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere, and these emissions contribute to climate change. Upcycling plastic also prevents the growing amount of plastic in land fills, which end up harming animals and their habitats.
